This plan, an enhancement that is integral to the SR 520 project, would construct a park over the SR 520 freeway near I-5 in the Roanoke Park area of North Capitol Hill, where 10th Ave., E Roanoke St., and Delmar Drive all come together. The Roanoke Lid concept was developed by the SR 520 Local Impact Committee, MAKERS Architects, Transpo Group, KPFF and submitted to WSDOT. The hard angle turn at 10th and Roanoke where traffic backs up today is softened into a "swoosh" that functions better and helps protect the park from traffic.
Pedestrian connections are possible at the north end of Federal Ave. and at Delmar Drive on the south side of SR 520. It is also possible to construct a bicycle trail connection to Broadway Ave. E (on the far right of this image) along WSDOT right of way, so bicyclists can avoid traffic congestion at 10th Ave E. and Miller St.
